Seen the Animatrix?
You really should.
You should watch it again.
And again.
And again.
Such... brilliance.
Reporter: You must be excited to run tomorrow
Dan: Always. I've never felt this good.
Reporter: So what was it like breaking 9.8 in the qualifying heat?
Dan: Like nothing I've ever felt before. Its everything I've worked for.
Dan: And now i'm just hoping I can get back there again.
Reporter: Somone once said it feels like zero gravity
Dan: You're released from the world and you're totally free...
There may or may not be a matrix controlling our minds. But i 100% understand what 'Dan' describes here. When I run, and I don't run as often as I might like, I can fly. I feel free. I feel unstoppable.
Its a beautiful thing.
To those who haven't experienced it, grab an MP3 player. Put on some tune with a heavy beat and fast pace. Make sure at some point there's a climax to the song. That climax is the 'sweet spot' for your run. You should know it well and be able to build up to your fastest sprint at that point (everything prior is just a warm-up). Dubstep works well for this, its got guaranteed bass drops and a fast enough tempo to make everything work well.
Go watch the Animatrix chump!
I entirely agree with this.
ReplyDeleteIn the Movie 'Avatar' (James Cameron's turd-child), the protagonist can't use his legs, and so is bound to a wheelchair. He goes to some random planet of ridiculously large things, and is given control of a giant blue man's body, probably grown artificially by the humans or something. Anyway, during the initial stages of being in the body, where stability tests and such are performed, he decides that's not his bag, and takes the giant blue man for a spin. So, now not only does he have working legs, but he also takes enormous steps because of the difference in leg-length. He goes for a short run before returning, and the way it is depicted is exactly how I've felt before.
Once when in a drunken stupor I decided I was late, and that I'd run a little to catch my train. Quickening my pace, I felt quite good about the situation and that I wasn't running as fast as I was apparently capable, I sped up. After speeding up I ran for several extra city blocks than my regular stamina would allow. For this time I felt like I was free.
Running for the train and getting there even when you doubt you can always feels great. The only time I don't really run for it is if I'm carrying electronic gear like my laptop or cameras around with me (I can, and do sometimes, but its more annoying and might damage equipment as well).
ReplyDeleteGet a pair of Dunlop Volleys for $20 (or if you're brave, barefoot) and run. It feels more natural, you get the extra spring from your toes you don't normally get and it just feels great.
I also run in 'construction boots' sometimes. There is a HUGE difference.
