Geelong Cement Factory + Train Pt3

So!

First off. The final piece of the train story! This model/particular carrige is known as BRF 91 / OWA 91 Community Service Car.

It took some finding, but i found some original photographs of the what the carrige in the below shots used to look like..

In 1952 it entered service.
In 2006 it was left to rot in a hanger where it still sits by "Rail Experience"
Thanks to wongm for the research...

Amusingly, although this train is stored in the "Geelong Cement" shed, it apparently has nothing to do with it. It just happens to be parked there and forgotten like...

The actual cement factory!

Warning - Lots of photos(thumbnails) below the break!

I visited this place MANY years ago.. Eary 2004-2005 i think... Made the drive from Melbourne down to Geelong. Was pretty pleased to check it out. But pretty disappointed to see that they had been partially demolished (not that that stopped us from trying to climb anyway!)

When we got there, we didn't know much about the history of the place. Knowing what i know now, it seems very strange that they would demolish a set of buildings that have existed for more than 100 years only to leave it abandoned for the next 10. But I hear that's what they call progress these days...

The cement works were demolished in the 2000s after their closure, except for some silos atop the hill at the railway sidings. The quarry nearby remains in use today.
